There are millions of people in America who belong to the “millennial” generation. These individuals—typically categorized as those who were born between 1980 and 2000—have influenced quite a few different aspects of American society, from how we communicate with one another to how we work and form relationships. Are millennials are taking a different approach to divorce as well?
Studies indicate that millennials are waiting longer to get married, or avoid it altogether, at higher rates than ever. And not only are fewer people getting married, but those who do are the least likely to get divorced. As a result, the marriage rate for millennials is the lowest in years at 26%. One reason for this might be that millennials are learning from the experiences of their parents (baby boomers), whose generation has had the highest divorce rate in recorded American history (48%).
Additionally, millennials seem to be employing prenuptial agreements much more than previous generations. This is a smart move that provides direction and structure if a divorce is the end result.
